A suburb of Annapolis, Cape St. Claire is one of the best-kept secret communities in Anne Arundel County. With water access, community parks & playgrounds, and a little-known shopping center full of local “mom and pop” stores and restaurants. With a strong sense of community, it’s easy to see why so many families enjoy Living In Cape St. Claire.

Moving to Cape St. Claire

Cape St. Claire is particularly popular due to the highly-rated public schools, numerous parks, and several Boy and Girl Scouts troops. In fact, according to a recent census, more than 40 percent of households have children under the age of 18. 

Another selling point is that there are good jobs in the area. Although many residents commute into Annapolis proper, even Baltimore and Washington DC are less than one hour away. There are 3 schools within the Cape Saint Claire community.  Broadneck High School, Cape St. Claire Elementary School, and The Harbour School.

Cape St. Claire is located right off Route 50, which gives you easy access to route 50 as well as rt 2 to Baltimore.

Things to Do in Cape St. Claire

This community features multiple parks & beaches in it’s residence. With beaches on the Magothy River to the north, and Little Magothy River to the east. There are also walking trails, a public pool, and several places to play sports, including a baseball field. basketball courts, and a large playground.

Cape St. Claire Rich History

“The Cape” was originally established as farmland in the late 1700’s by two main families. Two homes within Cape Saint Claire still remain from this era. The “Stinchcomb House” which is located near the Cape St. Claire Clubhouse, and “Goshen Farm“, which is located on a hill near the Cape St. Claire Elementary School.

The Goshen Farm Preservation Society maintains the farm today and is very involved with the local community and schools.  They hold several events a year open to the public including wine tasting, harvest dinner, a summer concert, and a spring & fall open house. In the 1940s the actual community of Cape Saint Claire was established and more homes started being built.  The community was originally marketed as a gated summer retreat community for the wealthy residents of Washington DC and Baltimore. The tiny guardhouse still stands today as you enter the community as a reminder of the communities history.

Cost Of Living In Cape St. Claire 

The price range of homes in “The Cape” is pretty wide because of all of the beautiful waterfront properties. It’s not uncommon to see $800,000 waterfront homes right across the street from a $400,000 split foyer.  The median value of a house in Cape St. Claire is $385,202.

When Moving To Cape St. Claire, you’ll notice that real estate has slightly higher prices than the median for the state. This is mainly because the area is so desirable. In addition, at $93,355, the median household income in Cape St. Claire is quite a bit higher than the rest of Maryland (at $78,945).

Is Cape St. Claire a waterfront community? 

Yes, Cape St. Claire sits on three bodies of water. The Little Magothy River, the Deep Creek River, and the Chesapeake Bay.

Can I rent a boat slip in the Cape Saint Claire Community?

Yes, boat slips are available in Cape Saint Claire however there are a limited number of slips.  You will have to add your name to the waiting list with the Cape St. Claire Improvement Association.

Can I rent the clubhouse or beach inside the Cape Saint Claire community?

Both the clubhouse and beach are for resident’s use only. If you are a resident, you can apply to rent out either one for private events.

Does Cape St. Claire Community have a mandatory HOA Fee?

Yes, but it is very small. Capire St. Clair’s HOA fee is only $10 a year paid to the Cape Saint Claire Improvement Association.
